Pursuing Compensation For Spinal Injuries

Trauma from an accident can result in damage to a person’s spine. Spinal cord injuries involve damage to the vertebrae, bony discs that run from the neck (cervical) through the midback (thoracic) and to the low back (lumbosacral) of the body. The impact from an accident can fracture or dislocate your vertebrae, with the resulting damage to the nerve roots resulting in partial or total paralysis (loss of movement) below the location of the injured spinal cord.

An accident can also cause one or more of the discs of the spinal cord to become displaced, often referred to as a herniated, bulging or protruding disc. A person with a herniated, bulging or protruding disc may suffer from severe pain. If a disc is making contact with the nerve that runs through the spinal column, the injured individual may have radiating symptoms such as pain, tingling and numbness running down one or more legs or arms.

These tests include x-ray, CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and myelogram. Depending on the severity and location of the injury, treatment of spinal cord injuries may include physical therapy, chiropractic manipulation, injections and surgery.
